Rainbow Road
Then: N64
Now: GC + Wii

Excerpt from the Gamer's Dictionary 1991 Edition:
Rainbow Road: A good track; Time-shortening shortcut; Epic Music; Long.

Excerpt from Webster's Dictionary of videogame terms, 2000-2009 edition;
Rainbow Road: Painful; Spririt-Breaking; Plummeting to the earth; sliding off the course; smashing one's controller.
Example;
"Yesterday, the body of an astronaut was found weeks after he Rainbow Roaded from repairing sattelites".
Ex.2
"God, that test was absolutely Rainbow Road."
Ex.3
"He got so angry at me, he Rainbow Roaded. All I did was dodge the blue shell at the last second."

Then: Awesome Classics
Now: Crappy remakes and sequels

Remember playing the awesome Goldeneye for the 64? How about Turok or Perfect Dark? Or even Banjo Kazue? All great games,probably in the list of best games ever. Have you played their sequels? They're the worst games ever and lost the concept of the original. In the new Turok, you're an astruanaut? In Banjo, you drive cars? Seriously, what were they thinking? Why not just take what they had, touch up the engine, and have a new storyline with the same characters? Is it really that hard?

Spyro the Dragon does that. It's no wonder those games are cool.

Those games should've died along time ago.

Oh, why didn't I think of this?!
I totally agree with you, but sometimes even the same characters, different storyline thing gets botched up.

Crash Bandicoot? Remember the PS1 games? God, those were fun. Now, they're just retarded.

Game Soundtracks
Then: Turok 2, Megaman, etc.
Now: Splinter Cell, Halo, etc.

You know what makes a game a masterpiece?

Gameplay, story.... and the soundtrack.

These tracks just make your skin crawl, they fit in with the level well. It makes you feel like you could run into something at any minute.

These ones.... not so much. It feels that way at first, but then something kills it.

I prefer the music KoF has, most of the character's theme songs are epic.

Game Content
Then: They put as much into the game as could be possible.
Now: Extra levels n' shit have to be downloaded.

Games used to have so much in them. You were usually getting what you payed for; the games were packed with as much content as the disc/cartridge could hold.
Then the download revolution came.
Now, you're not getting your moneys worth unless you have a credit card and Microsoft/Wii/whatever-the-fuck-PS3-has points to spend on extra levels, guns and storylines.
What about us, who can't hook up online? What if our computers and consoles are on two separate floors?
Simple. We get the shaft.
What a great world we live in.
