Consoles:
Then: Dreamcast
Now: PS3

Oh, Dreamcast. You looked so good. Your graphics were sweet and your future looked so bright.
But Sony came along and crushed you like a rock.
Why, Dreamcast? Why were you marketed so shabbily? Why were you crushed so easily? Why didn't you fight for your place in the console war? Why?

And so Sega was swept aside for Sony to make the POS3. Ever wonder what it would have been like if Sega stayed in the market? I liked their systems. The Genesis was one of the greatest systems I have ever played.

Games
Then: Nintendo 64
Now: Wii

Children, sit down and let me take you back to a time when gaming was better for the big N. Dedicated developers developed works of art. Legends rose from humble beginnings. Even the shittiest game was playable, and you didn't regret playing it. Even if it was only fun for a half hour.

Now Nintendo has lost it's mind. 3rd party developers churn out games like hotcakes; mediocre hotcakes that taste bland in your mouth. Mediocre heroes replace the legends desperately clinging on to life, or dying out completely.
And why the hell did you buy that Wii Poniez game?!
Oh yeah.
24 pack of beer, and food poisoning.
Hope you enjoy that hangover, because you deserve it for supporting those people.
Poniez? What the hell were you thinking...

Sony
Then: PS1
Now: PS3

Yes, there was a time when I myself gazed at Sony with respect and admiration. I even begged my parents for a Playstation once. I got the 64 instead. I enjoyed playing the Playstation. Crash. Final Fantasy... uhh.... 7. (Whatever one Cloud was in.) Megaman. I couldn't wait to play these games.

Now, i'll be lucky if I ever play a PS3. Still the most expensive console to date. But anything i've seen on PS3, i've seen a game on the 360 that was similar. So, methinks I ain't missing much. (and no, I don't give a shit about Blu-Ray. So don't ask.)

Is there anything you miss about videogames?

I've always hated Sony. Lousy games. I also hate it even more for klling DreamCast. DreamCast was the greatest system besides N64. Sonic Adventures, MVC2, Crazy Taxi, etc. And for what? PS2? That shit console that had Metal Gear Solid 2 and....no other game (at the time DC died)? WTF

N64, the greatest. I can't think of one bad game. N64 created legends that we all know them by. We all know Star Fox, Mario, Pokemon, and Smash, and the best ones were on the N64.

I got some other ones you might find interesting:

Duke Nukem
Then: Duke Nukem 3D
Now: Duke Nukem (taking) Forever

Missing: A man in his late-20s, muscular. Wears a red muscle shirt, blue jeans. May be packing serious heat.
Last appearance was in 2008, 2 screenshots.
Likes women, known to make remarks about ass-kicking and bubblegum.
If you have seen this man, please be sure to call 1-800-WHERE-IS-DUKE.

Sonic
Then: Sonic 3
Now: Sonic Unleashed

Sonic has been around all my life. His genesis games were gold. The first Sonic game i've ever played was Sonic & Knuckles, and I liked it a lot. It was fun.

But now, I couldn't care less about Sonic. His new games suck now. I think the crapfest started right after Sonic Jam. After that, the games just nosedived. Sonic Heroes, Sonic '06... I haven't played Unleashed, but from what i've seen, the Werehog bits really pull it down. If it wasn't for those parts, the game would be great.
Good thing about video games, is that if you don't like the new games, you can go to your closet and pull out the best of them.

Turok
Then: Turok (N64)
Now: Turok (360)

You know how sometimes you know two kids with the same name?
Well, this is a little similar. There's the Turok from the N64, which is the best, and then there's 'Turok', a space marine chasing after a criminal taking refuge on a dinosaur infested planet.
360 Turok shouldn't be called a 'ressurection'. It has nothing to do with the comic books, the movies, or the N64 games. It's just a new, standalone Turok.
Those two Turoks are completely different.

So, where's this ressurection I was promised, oh, 2 or so E3's ago?

Game length
Then: Week or more
Now: 24 hours or drastically less

I like games that have so much gameplay in them, it would take you weeks on end to get every single little thing, do every sidequest, get every gun in the game, unlock all the cheats manually, etc...
But now, games can be finished in about a day. Some, 6 hours.
Are we really so lazy that we can't keep captivated for more than just 6 hours, or are developers just getting lazier?
I want to spend more time with a game before I throw it in the closet forever, please.

Sonic Unleash is just like the old Sonic games, so I hate how Sonic fans baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww about it. It's the same shitty game play. Hold right and press a occasionally. Grab 1000000000000000 rings that don't do shit and jump on enemies every now and then.

I find it slightly ironic that you would say that considering your earlier praise for SA.
And to be quite frank, the original sonic games can be attributed to the original Super Mario Brothers, in which you hold right and collect hundreds of useless coins. Actually to be more precise, at least with the creation of sonic two, the rings were necessary to attain Super Sonic status.

Sonic Adventures was better, though. You had those unique levels where you had to find parts of the Master Emerald, the levels with tails where you had to go up somewhere, the unique boses. It was different than SU and the original Sonic games.

And in Mario, coins actually gave you lives and you reached different places if you didn't only hold right. But DK Country is better than them anyways.

PC games:
Then: Many varied titles
Now: If it's on a console, it's on a PC.

Interstate 76, Strife, Fallout, Hellbender, Fury... heard of any of these?
Anyone I have ever talked to has no clue what the heck any of these are. These are some of the greatest games you will ever have the pleasure to play. Sweet gameplay, killer soundtracks, online play and downloadable content. From 1991 on, these games are the sweetest stuff you will ever play, and installing them wasn't a total pain in the ass.

Now it's different. Product codes, Pin numbers, 1 account per disc, passwords... and then you find out your computer's too shitty to even play Age of Empires 3 without toning down the graphics. A lot.
The coolest games on the PC require a great computer to run them, so if you only have a decent computer like mine, your outta luck.
Then again, 75% of games on the PC are on the Xbox 360 or PS3. So if your computer-skittish, just buy the game for your console.

This is just personal opinion, so before you get angry...

Speaking of PC Gaming, anyone here ever played Jagged Alliance?
NO ONE I FUCKING KNOW KNOWS OF IT. I grew up with that game, and it still doesn't bore me. (mainly cause I haven't beaten it yet <.<) I've beaten Jagged Alliance: Unfinished Business. But # 1 is hard, also the best one so far...
Also, just like Duke Nukem. JA3 is taking forever to make. Sad

Fanboys:
Then: Pretty bad.
Now: Worse.

Ok, now, back in the '64 days, I used to get into some pretty heated arguments about what was better; Sony or Nintendo? Of course, I sided with Nintendo.
And these fights, it was rediculous how bad they got. I remember having a couple of kids hate me because we had a fight over that, and they usually tried to get me good for it in gym class.
But that's not nearly as bad as now.
Now, they're really bad. It's rediculous what's dragged into these frays. It gets to the point, when they're arguing about something com-PLETE-ly different than what they started with; Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo?
Hey, don't believe me, you can check Gamesradar and Youtube.
Sheesh. I hate these people. Sony Fanboys are ignorant dicks, Nintendo Fanboys always sound all like, 'You wait and see... You ALL wait and see!' and Microsoft Fanboys are usually starting the fights with the Sony Fanboys.
It's ANARCHY, for god's sake! Sometimes, I wish they'd ALL shut the hell up.

Cartridges vs. Discs:
Then: Cartridges
Now: Discs

Now then, the cartridge did have it's follies. Remember in teh NES days, when you had to blow into your cartridge, then your system, then the cartridge again before it worked? Sure, that was a pain.
But then, over time, it got better. The cartridge was eventually perfected in the SNES era. The games worked pretty much every time.
We gave it up for the CD. It could hold more data, which means more content, which means bigger games.
Now, don't get me wrong. I love the upgrade. Bigger games = good.
But, they're just so... fragile.
Get it a wee bit dirty, and it barely or doesn't work. Get any scratches on it, and before long, your favourite games refuse to work. Sit on it, and you're DEFINATELY going to need a new one.
You could just leave cartridges sitting on the carpet in front of the system before, but with CDs, that isn't an option. STRAIGHT to the case.
Well, if you don't think that's a big deal, there's the system involved too. Over time, it deteriorates.
First, the disc tray won't open, and then, the reader stops working.
Hopefully, we can improve on what we already have when it comes to discs.

Yes! Someone who agrees on the terrible disks. We should get back to cartidges. Or maybe some kind of chip like an SD card of some sort, but bigger.

Then: Half-Life
Now: Nothin'

It gives us Episode 3... brainz. Seriously Valve I love you like a brother, but I've hit my brother in the face for less then this. (And got the hell beat out of me). And besides where did the weird dog things go? And the Vortigons? No man, they DID NOT look like that. And how about those fun gimmicky weapons? Valve we love you for who you are, FIGHT THE POWER! And give us the Episode 3... hopefully with the portal gun.

While your at it could you also make a STALKER game, 'cause that would pwn.

Movie Based games:
Then: NES tradgeties
Now: Mediocre/Good range

This is different from my other ones! This time, i'm actually praising something.
Movie based games back on the NES days were so crappy, you'd have nightmares about playing them. We've all seen The Angry Nintendo Nerd review these games, and holy crap, I can't say I would have lasted as long as he did.
Heck, one game got buried under a highway. Yeah. We've progressed since then.

Now, they're actually somewhat playable. Heck, some of them are even good.
The Lord of the Rings games are pretty fun, even for beat-em ups. The Evil Dead games aren't bad either. Even the games you expect to be crap, are actually not that bad.
Kung Fu Panda's an OK game.
And hey, can you say there has EVER been a bad Star Wars game? Huh? I bet you can't.
If I had a list of games to bury underneath something, I can't say i'd put any movie based games on it. That's how much better they are now.

Consoles
Then: Nice and Sturdy
Now: Might not last so long.

Man, they just don't make them like they used to. I mean, there's so many issues that come up with these consoles.
My origional Xbox first couldn't open if it didn't have a disc in the drive. Then it wouldn't even open. Then, it just stopped reading discs altogether.
The Xbox 360 has the 'red ring of death', and the PS3 reportedly used to freeze often.
The Wii has major issues with 3rd party accessories.

And yet, my N64 still works like new.

Then: Games
Somewhat then: Memory Cards
Now: Hard Drives

Remeber back when Blockbuster was cheap and you'd rent games all the time? Or was that just me....
Anyways, I remember hating returning the game, because that'd mean if I were to buy the game after renting it, I'd have to beat the game all over again.
Then, there were Memory Cards. These were the best option, because you can save you games you borrowed or rented, so when you get a different game, you can keep the data from the previous game. And since the memory cards were so small, you could bring them to a different house to play your data somewhere else! It was the best.
Now, there are hard drives. The good news is you can hold lots of space including full games, however it sucks, because you can't bring it everywhere you want. And if your system gets fucked up, which does so easily now a days, you lose all of your memory, which is always a pain.

I also really hate it when it asks you where you want to store your save data when you only have 1 place to put it.
What, did they really think we'd make a stupid mistake in where we save? Does it really need to ask us every time, when the only place to put anything is the hard drive?

Oh, and I believe you can take the hard drive off of the 360... even though that could easily lead to problems.

@ Eriko: Well, i've never had to do that with the N64...
but yes, it's much easier to get it working that way.
Have you seen my 'discs' one yet? It's got the same idea...

I forgot you can remove the hard drive, but I can imagine lots of problems.

Yes! Someone who agrees on the terrible disks. We should get back to cartidges. Or maybe some kind of chip like an SD card of some sort, but bigger.
Oh yeah, I just want to bring this up;

Have you ever heard of the Turbo GraphX?
Well, it was something on the lines of that. It used a kind of SD card thing.
It's like a credit card with a computer chip in the bottom of it.
I didn't play very much of it, but hey, it was cool, man. I remember playing this Japanese game where you'd travel between the real world and the demon world, and every time you went to the demon world, you would suddenly have this wicked-ass suit of armor.
